The Wabash River is Indiana's longest river — 503 miles total, with approximately 411 miles flowing through Indiana before forming the state's border with Illinois. The Wabash supports one of the most diverse fisheries in the Midwest. Trophy flathead catfish (50+ lbs), blue catfish (60+ lbs), and channel catfish are caught year-round. Spring brings legendary white bass runs into the tributaries. Smallmouth bass thrive in the rocky, riffle-and-pool sections, especially upstream of Lafayette. Walleye and sauger fishing is excellent at the lock-and-dam tailwaters during cold months. Public access is plentiful — ramps in Lafayette, Logansport, Wabash, Peru, Terre Haute, Vincennes, and many county-maintained sites along the entire length.
